George W Lumpkins

George W Lumpkins(variation of name Lumpkin) was born 8 Dec 1825 in Tennessee and died 7 Feb 1911 in Indiana.
 He is united in marriage to Sarah Harrison on 27 Dec 1847 in Howard County.  Note on maiden name of Sarah; I have found on some of her children's marriage record that they give the surname of Harris.

His family is first found in the 1850 Census in Clinton, Putnam, Indiana.  The family consist of  George who's age is 24, Sarah is 22,  James W. is 1 and Charles J.'s age is given as 0. His occupation is farmer and his birth place is Tennessee.  Sarah and the two boys are born in Indiana. On this record Rebecca Lumpkins and children are counted next on census

We have not found the 1860 Census record yet.

The Census record in 1870 has the family moved to Perry, Boone, Indiana.  The household consist of G W (George W) age 44, Sarah age 42, Charles age 20, D Oliver age 16, Amanda age 12, Flora A., age 11, Morton P. age 8, Florana R. age 6, Rebecca age 5, U S G Lumpkin 3 mos.

These are the children as of 1870 (Research note the middle names were found in various marriage index and census records)

The Census of 1880 has the household still in George is 54, Sarah is 48, Oliver is 26, Amanda is 21, Perry Morton is 17, Rachael F. is  15, Rebecca A is 13, and Oscar is age 10.  George is a farming.  Charles J., Flora A. and USG are not on this record.  Charles is living in a household of his own.  Flora A. She  married a JW Potts in 1884, Flora is a Milliner and Dressmaker in Brownsburg Amanda is counted twice in the 1880 Census once at home once in Brownsburg with Flora, as a boarder in same household as the one Flora is boarding in.  Amanda is also a Milliner and Dressmaker. As for USG they could have changed his name to Oscar, or they could be two separate children.

In the 1900 Census George is 74 and still farming, and Sarah is 71, in the household is a 9 year old give Effie S. Potts identified as a granddaughter.  She is the daughter of Flora A.

In the 1910 George is 84 and gives his occupation as Own Income. Sarah is 71 and Effie S is 19.  This is the last Census the George is counted in as he died the next year. Sarah who was born 2 Sep 1828 dies 15 Dec 1918.  They share a grant grave stone in Howards
