They are first counted in Indiana in the 1850 Census the household consisting of John W. age 49, Matilda age 42, Amanda M. age 17, Samuel age 12, John age 7 and David age 5. They are living in Boone County, District 7.
They are again counted in the 1860 Census living in Perry, Boone, Indiana. John W.'s occupation is that of Farmer and Samuel on the Census gives an occupation of farm laborer. The household consist of age 59, Matilda age 53, Sameul H., age 22, John L age 18, David age 8 and William Davis age 16. As for William Davis, a Davis family are the Doyal's neighbors. Amanda M., is not counted with the family in this Census. His property is valued at $8,600 and personal property of $1000
The 1870 Census has the family living in Perry, Boone County, Indiana. The family consist of John W age 68, Matilda age 67 and D D age 24. Also in the household is a Martha J Demoss age 20 she is a domestic servant. His property is valued at $11,350 and personal property of $1800.00
The 1880 Census counts the family still living in Boone County Perry Township Indiana John W. age 78 is farming, Matilda is73, and David D is 33. Also in the household is John M Frazee, a 20 year old grandson, he is the son of daughter Amanda M. and her husband Aaron Frazee. Christina Smock age 19 a cousin and Phillip Kuhn age 42 a laborer. This is the last Census the John and Matilda are counted on as the both pass within a few years of each other.
