John B Howard

John B. Howard was born about 1810 in Kentucky.  He first appears as living in Boone County in the 1840 Census.  The Census records indicate that he has two male children between 5-9 living with him.  He also has two female children under the age of five in the household.  The 1840 Census also puts his age between 20-29 and a female in the same age range.  There is a total of six free persons in the household.
In the 1850 Census we have a better view of the family.  The household in 1850 consist of John B. Howard age 41 born in Kentucky, Lydia Howard age 39 born in Kentucky, Dudly Howard age 18 born in Kentucky, Ellen age 14 born in Indiana, Elizabeth age 12  born in Indiana, America Howard age 10 born in Indiana, Lovina(Luvina) age 8 born in Indiana, Caroline Howard age 6 born in Indiana, Terhiller(Truviller) Howard 4 born in Indiana, and Israel Howard 2 born in Indiana.  (As state in the earlier post this may or may not be the Israel buried in Howards.) We shall see.   We can surmise that the family moved to Boone County between 1832-1836 as Ellen is born in 1836 in Indiana and older brother Dudley is born in 1832 in Kentucky

The family is still living in Boone County in the 1860 Census, two additional daughters have been born Jemina who is 9 and Chloe who is 5.  This is not the same Chloe that is born in 1877 and dies the same year, as the Chloe is living with her mother in the 1880 Census.   The last Census that John B. Howard is counted in is the 1870 Census he is listed as being a Farmer.  Lydia, T.E.  Chloe and an Alonzo Hollingsworth make up the household.

In the 1880 Census the household is made up of Lydia Howard, Chloe Howard and James B. Doyal.  This is the last Census that Lydia will be counted in as she passes in 1883.  The Howard children marry into various Perry Township families, such as the Crane, Smith and Crabb to name a few.

  1. According to the 1850 census Ellen was born in Indiana.

  2. I have doubled checked the 1850 Census, and you are correct Ellen is born in Indiana. The above post now shows that correction. I always preach not to always look at the original and I did not shame on me, for not seeing the transcription error.
